The PS 5 After School Program (ASP) is a bite-sized piece of PS 5 magic! Dedicated parent volunteers work with coaches, artists, and teachers in the community to bring enrichment classes of all kinds— dance, theater, music, cooking, yoga, soccer, sewing, chess, and more— to PS 5 between 3-5 pm on weekdays for a dramatically-reduced per class cost. And we even offer some scholarships for families who qualify!! It is parent-run and we need a volunteer in EVERY class, so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. It is a great way to get to know PS 5 and make a meaningful contribution to the school. Hello, Parents and Guardians:
We are pleased to announce our next PS5 After-School Enrichment Program curriculum! Registration for classes begins Monday, February 11th at 8:00pm and will CLOSE PROMPTLY at 9:00pm on Friday, February 15th.
The Thursday and Friday classes will largely start on February 28th and March 1, and the M-W classes will begin the following week. The classes will run for as many weeks as it takes to get in 10 sessions. There is no ASP on school holidays, half days, emergency school closings, or days without Casper, so it is not 10 successive weeks.
Attached to this letter are class descriptions, age ranges, and a weekly schedule. Classes are priced as follows and include 10 sessions:

Please know that we do make an effort to provide some scholarships. We encourage you to read more details below on our scholarship program.
Registration Fee: There is a registration fee of $15 per child to sign up for the after-school program. The registration fee is a one-time fee regardless of how many classes you sign up for this semester. This fee helps the PTA pay for our on-site coordinator, the online database, and our security costs.
Processing Fees: The registration website allows payment either by a credit card or directly from a bank account through an “e-check.” The company that processes these transactions charges a fee for each. The fee is 3.9% of the total transaction amount for orders paid with a credit card, or 2.1% of the transaction amount for e-checks. These fees go directly to cover the processing amount and not to the PTA. NOTE: All fees can be paid online or in person by money order ONLY. If you prefer to pay by money order, you must register your child online and select the money order option at payment
ALL MONEY ORDERS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, OR YOUR CHILD WILL LOSE HIS/HER SPOT. WE DO NOT HAVE THE RESOURCES TO BE PURSUING PARENTS WHO HAVEN’T PAID.PLEASE DROP YOUR MONEY ORDERS IN THE BLACK LOCK BOX HANGING ON THE WALL IN ROOM 103A (PARENT RESOURCE ROOM). THE PARENT RESOURCE ROOM IS LOCATED ON THE FIRST FLOOR, AROUND THE CORNER FROM NURST MOULTON’S OFFICE – YOU WILL FIND THE LOCK BOX HANGING ON THE WALL TO YOUR RIGHT AS YOU ENTER 103A. Make money orders out to PS5 PTA and put a note on it with your kid(s) name and the class(es). Please don’t forget your address on the money order.
To Register Your Child:
Online registration for classes opens Monday, February 11 at 8:00 pm and will end promptly on Friday, February 15 at 9:00pm.
Registration is held on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration portal can be accessed with this link: https://www.regpacks.com/reg/templates/build/?g_id=100902051. Please do not access the portal outside of the registration period. During other times, the registration system will be undergoing revision and testing. Unauthorized access will interfere with this process, creating extra work, and causing delays. The system is maintained by parent volunteers working as our schedules permit, so please save us all the hassle and wait until the authorized time. The system will tattle on you and let us know who tried to get in outside of the permissible time.
In addition to the registration period, the portal will be accessible for account creation only starting on Saturday, February 9 at 10:00am and ending on Saturday, February 9th at 10:00pm. Parents who have previously created accounts but do not remember their passwords can use this time to go through the password recovery process. Again, please do not try to register children outside the permitted time, and do not access the portal outside of the permitted time.
Important note: Please think carefully in advance about your kid’s suitability for each class given temperament, ability to follow directions, and capacity for focus before you register. Parent volunteers are unable to devote one-on-one attention to any one child. If your child consumes more than a reasonable amount of adult resources in a class, we will ask you to take a break from participation or accompany your child to class. Children should not bring toys to the ASP class.
Waitlists: If a class is marked full, the website allows parents to add children to the waitlist. If you are interested in the class, sign up for the waitlist! If there is another class in the same time slot that you are interested in as a second choice, you may select that class and proceed to check out to ensure your spot in your second choice class. If you registered for a secondary option, but still wish to be on the waitlist for the first, please send an e-mail to email@example.com with the subject line “Waitlist Request.” Include the name of your child and the desired first-choice class for which you would like them placed on the waitlist. The APS Committee will try to accommodate these requests as best as possible, and manually add children to the waitlist queue based on the timestamp on your e-mail.
Refunds: We realize that sometimes there are unforeseen circumstances which lead a parent or guardian to request a refund. In this event, a request for a refund may be submitted on or before the 2nd class. The remaining unattended classes will be eligible for reimbursement. Any class cancellations after the 2nd class, unfortunately, cannot be honored as vendors are paid ahead of time.
Scholarships: Please consider donating to the scholarship fund if you are able. A limited number of scholarships are available for those who qualify for free or reduced lunch. If you wish to be considered for a scholarship, please make sure to check the box on the online form. Once registration has concluded, the PTA Executive Board will select scholarship recipients. Scholarship families will be refunded their registration payment. A maximum of one scholarship is awarded per family per semester.
Parent Volunteers: In order for the After-School Program to function, we must register at least one parent/guardian volunteers per class. Families who are willing to volunteer for all ten classes will be given priority placement. The role of the volunteers are to be present during the ASP classes, shuttle kids to and from the classes, escort students to the bathroom as needed and help keep order and maintain a safe classroom environment. If you are able to volunteer, please make sure to check the volunteer box on the online registration form. Alternatively, you can contact the ASP team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Note for CASPER Students Participating in Dinner/Meals: Please be informed that CASPER cannot HOLD the 3pm dinners for children participating in the ASP. If your child is participating in this dinner program, you may wish to send additional food and snacks on the day(s) that your child is enjoying the enrichment classes.
Protocol if not in CASPER: Children not in CASPER will need to be dropped off and picked up at the front of the auditorium by their adult caregiver. The adult must wait for the kid to be picked up by the parent volunteer before leaving. The adult must pick them up at the front of the auditorium after class. Look for the row labeled with your child’s class. Please do not be late. Many volunteers have back to back classes and waiting for a tardy pick-up throws the whole schedule off.
There is no nurse for CASPER or the ASP.
