before & after school programs

Our programs, consist of fundraising events that support our children. You can contribute in many ways whether it’s through community or individual contributions.

Morning Stars & Casper

The Jersey City PS5 PTA is a not-for-profit local affiliate of the National PTA. 

  • Morning Stars is the before care program. Available from 7am-8:30am (must be in school before 8am)

    There is no MORNING STARS on delayed openings.

  • CASPER is the after-care program. Available from 2:45pm-6:00pm.

    There is no CASPER on half days,  teacher-parent conference days, or professional development days

  • Any family needing assistance can go through the Urban League (copays may apply effective August 2024):

    You will pay monthly and both programs have a 5-day grace period for payment.

    • A late charge after the 5 day grace period

    • If not paid by the 10th day of the month, the child will no longer be allowed to attend the program

  • Your child will receive an afternoon snack in CASPER. For morning stars, the students will receive free breakfast when the school day starts.

PS5 After School Enrichment Program

The after school program is only for students in Prek 4- 8th grade. Unfortunately, we do not offer classes for PreK3. The class options ranges from art classes, breakdancing, chess, coding, crochet, dance, beginner french, lego, mandarin, musical theatre, soccer and ukulele.

  • The PS 5 After School Program (ASP) is a bite-sized piece of PS 5 magic!  Dedicated parent volunteers work with coaches, artists, and teachers in the community to bring enrichment classes of all kinds— dance, theater, music, lego, soccer, crochet, chess, and more— to PS 5 between 3-5 pm on weekdays for a dramatically-reduced per class cost.  And we even offer some scholarships for families who qualify!! It is parent-run, and we need a volunteer in EVERY class, so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.  It is a great way to get to know PS 5 and make a meaningful contribution to the school.  We are always looking for adult volunteers, if you are interested please reach out to ps5enrichment@gmail.com
